60% of PHL businesses are inadequate in terms of cybersecurity infrastructure

More than half of Philippine enterprises are inadequate when it comes to cybersecurity infrastructure which fit international standards, ePLDT Inc., the digital business solutions arm of PLDT Inc., said Monday.

“Sixty percent of Philippine enterprises are reported to be not adequately equipped with cybersecurity infrastructures fit for the standards that today’s digital ecosystem demands,” the company said in an emailed statement.

Citing data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), ePLDT said the Philippines is the tenth most attacked country globally.

“The incidents of cyber threats have increased over the years and have affected both public and private organizations," ePLDT Group chief information security officer Angel Redoble said.

“Hackers have become smarter, impacting business sustainability and innovation and threatening private information and public safety,” he said.

Redoble noted the need to develop cybersecurity infrastructure in the Philippines.

“The only definite solution for this is to develop an even more intelligent and holistic security infrastructure and practices,” he said.

The government has since adopted the National Cybersecurity Plan 2022, a five-year plan which assures the continuous operation of the country’s infostructures and networks, and the implementation of cyber resiliency to respond to attacks.

ePLDT said it is open to working with the government to develop the country’s cybersecurity.

“Like other groups within the PLDT family, ePLDT is pledged to pave avenues for solutions that are not only advanced, but are tailor-fit for any business cybersecurity concern from proactive detection to active solution of threats,” ePLDT Group COO Nerissa Ramos said.

The company’s products and services include Cloud, Big Data Analytics, Cyber Security, purpose-built Data Center facilities, Digital Engagement solutions, and Managed IT Services. —Jon Viktor Cabuenas/VDS, GMA News
