Grab intensifies safety features for passengers, drivers

Transport network company Grab has vowed to double its investment in safety measures by next year under its Safety Everyday Tech Roadmap.

Launched on Monday, the safety roadmap will add five safety features in the app that includes passenger validation.

Riders will be able to validate their profile log-ins or by adding their debit and credit card details.

Drivers can only start to drive after a selfie check which confirms the driver's identity through a driver selfie authentication feature.

Other measures include extending the live location sharing option to drivers, as well as a driver fatigue monitoring system, and an in-app data privacy center which enables passengers to have more control over personal information they would like to keep on the Grab platform.

The passenger validation feature has been rolled out this month, while the rest will be operational in the coming months.

“Our goal is to bring the number of incidents that are completely preventable to zero and reduce the number of road accidents, and the key to make it easy for users to make an actual change to their road behavior habits,” Tan Hooi Ling, Grab co-founder, said in a statement.

“We know the bigger we get, the more responsibility we have to put in place the right framework and measures to deliver a safer environment,” she added. —VDS, GMA News
