Agri Dept. urges investors to try organic farming

Developing organic farms can be a lucrative agri-tourism business and something investors should look into, Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala said during the opening of the new Learning and Discovery Center in Quezon City.

The government is positioning agriculture and tourism as strategic investment areas, Alcala noted, citing that President Benigno Aquino III—during the World Economic Forum last week in Davos, Switzerland— pitched agriculture and tourism as the fastest-growing sectors of the economy that can spur growth and development outside Metro Manila.

According to the Agriculture chief, investors who adopt organic technologies have lower production costs and more competitive products in the global market, saying export destinations in Europe are more attracted to organic products.
