Prices of vegetables, fish go up due to Labuyo

Prices of some vegetables and fish in Metro Manila have started going up due to the effects of Typhoon Labuyo.

The storm had caused damage to parts of northern Luzon including Cordillera, which supplies much of the vegetable needs of Metro Manila.

In Quezon City, vendors at the Mega Q Mart said they are trying to put off raising prices so they would not lose customers, radio dzBB's Allan Gatus reported.

As of Wednesday morning, tomatoes sold for P80 per kilo, up from P70 per kilo before Labuyo, while cabbage sold for P50 per kilo from P40 per kilo.

Vendors kept prices of onions at P40 per kilo and garlic at P80 per kilo, ampalaya at P60 per kilo and potatoes by P70 per kilo.

Prices of okra remained at P60 per kilo while Baguio beans sold at P45 per kilo.

The prices of some fish remained stable, including tilapia at P80 per kilo, bangus at P110 per kilo, dalag at P140 per kilo, tambakol at P100 per kilo, dalagang bukid at P100 per kilo, and galunggong at P90 per kilo.

However, a separate report on "Saksi" Tuesday night had said prices of pechay and cabbage from Baguio went up by P10 per kilo, even as prices of other vegetables remained stable because vendors may be letting their present supplies run out.



The "Saksi" report also noted some price hikes for fish in Guadalupe in Makati City, including galunggong from P100 to P120-140 per kilo, bilong bilong from P120 to P140 per kilo, yellow fin from P140 to P180 per kilo, and matambaka from P120 to P140 per kilo.
