Two employers arrested for not remitting employees' SSS contributions


A medical doctor and another employer were arrested on Monday morning for their alleged failure to remit their employees' contributions to the state-owned Social Security System (SSS).

Members of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), accompanied by SSS officials, arrested a Dr. Rhea Liza Henzon at the Capitol Medical Center in Quezon City.

SSS Vice President for Legal Enforcement Group Renato Cuisia said the doctor was arrested for her failure to remit P1.6 million worth of her employees' SSS contributions from 2007 to 2011.

The doctor owns the Silver Stream Publishing Corp.

Cuisia said the penalty for the doctor's non-payment of the employees' SSS contributions has ballooned to P6 million.

The SSS and CIDG team also arrested the owner of Skill Power Institute Livelihood Training Corp. for not being bale to remit the SSS contributions of the firm's employees worth P300,000.

Cuisia said the arrests should serve as a stern warning to employers. —reports from Luisito Santos and Bernadette Reyes/ALG, GMA News
