PCCI forges ties with Oman counterpart

The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry recently signed a cooperation agreement with the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry to boost the two countries’ economic ties. Among the key provisions of the agreement are the regular exchange of commercial and economic delegations; the sharing of market information to encourage fresh collaborations; and the participation of their members in conferences, seminars, trade shows and related business events to build up economic and investment activities for Oman and the Philippines. PCCI president Miguel Varela said the partnership has been the result of an almost two-year-long discussion between the two chambers, with the full support of the Philippine embassy in Muscat and the Office of the Special Envoy to the Gulf Cooperation Council. Varela signed the agreement with OCCI chairman Khalil Abdullah Al Khonji in the presence of Secretary of Foreign Affairs Albert del Rosario, Philippine Ambassador to Oman Joselito Jimeno, Honorary Consul of Oman to the Philippines Leonardo de Ocampo and Philippine Business Conference chairman Antonio Lopa. The Oman business chamber also invited interested Philippine companies to participate in infrastructure projects and collaborate in key industries such as food processing, agri business ventures, petrochemicals, and training centers. Tourism on both sides is also expected to grow with the proposed direct flights of Oman Air to NAIA.   Al Khonji also recommended the organization of the first Philippines-Gulf Cooperation Council Business Forum next year in Oman to draw a clear and strategic agenda between the Philippines and the GCC member economies.   Another strong indication that Oman considers the Philippines an important economic partner is its plan of putting up an embassy in the country. — BM, GMA News
