Ex-LP officer is first female Napocor president

A former officer of the ruling Liberal Party has been appointed by President Benigno Aquino III as the new president of the National Power Corporation (Napocor).

In a statement released Thursday, Napocor said Aquino appointed Ma. Gladys Cruz-Sta. Rita as its new president, the first female to hold the position since its foundation in 1936.

Sta. Rita, who was endorsed by Energy Sec. Jericho Petilla for the post, had served as LP director general.

Sta. Rita was also previously director of Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) and chair of its subsidiary PNOC Development and Management Corporation (PDMC).

Before this, she had also served as the provincial administrator of Bulacan for 17 years and worked as consultant at United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through the HPDP of the UPEcon for projects in the Philippines.

She earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of the Philippines School of Economics.

She likewise earned a masters degree in Public Administration at La Consolacion University and completed a certificate program for senior executives at the John F. Kennedy School of Government in Harvard University.
