PNoy to France: We are more open for business

Building on the growing European business interest in the Philippines, President Benigno S. Aquino III will meet 150 French business leaders in Paris, France, carrying with him a resounding message: The Philippines is more open for business.

“The President will talk about good governance or ‘daang matuwid (the straight path),’ a Philippine byword in enabling businesses and sustaining its strong macroeconomic fundamentals,” Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Gregory L. Domingo said in emailed a statement Wednesday.

The President will be speaking at the Philippines-France Business Forum, a major activity by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to promote trade and investment in Europe. He is set to be in France from September 17 to 18.

Aquino will also speak to French businessmen on the Philippines newfound image as Asia's fastest growing economy, its prospects, and the policies of transparency and openness for business that have contributed to this progress, Domingo noted.

At the Philippines-France Business Leader's Roundtable, the President will also give his views to a select group of the top 10 French and 10 Filipino business executives.  The meeting will focus on how to improve trade and investments between France and the Philippines and specific opportunities available to both countries.

The President will also have meetings with a number of French companies that intend to expand their current presence in the Philippines.

A 40-member Filipino business delegation that accompanies the President will have a chance to interact and network with their French counterparts to further increase bilateral trade and investments between the two countries.

“These business activities aim to boost our economic relations with France and sustain our gains from return visits made by various French official and business delegations to the Philippines,” Domingo said.

Early this year, the Philippine government together with the private sector received the Movement of the Enterprises of France or Mouvement des entreprises de France (MEDEF) business delegation, which is involved in transportation, infrastructure, tourism, aviation, and energy.

Domingo noted that the DTI is promoting French investments in the sectors specified in the country’s Investments Priorities Plan, and Philippine design-driven and organic food products in France.

“We also intend to work towards fortifying relations with top French industries, particularly aerospace development as it relates to aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul, and logistics and the potential part of the industry supply chain,” Domingo said. – VS, GMA News
