Metro Manila subway master plan set for 2015 completion

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) expects to complete the master plan for a  subway mass transit system in Metro Manila within the year, a report on Unang Balita said Tuesday.

The proposed Mega Manila Subway Line would ease traffic along EDSA and other major highways in the National Capital Region, the report said, citing DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson.

The underground rail system forms part of the bigger "Roadmap for Transport Infrastructure Development for Metro Manila and Its Surrounding Areas" that the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) prepared in collaboration with other government agencies.

The roadmap, also dubbed as the Dream Plan 2030, outlines an integrated transport system in Metro Manila, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite and Laguna. It aims to mitigate traffic congestion in Metro Manila, which translate to transport costs totaling 2.4 billion a day, according to JICA.
