Kim Wong returns P38M of stolen Bangladesh funds

Casino junket operator Kam Sin "Kim" Wong on Monday returned another P38 million to the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) for safekeeping in the vaults of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).

A reliable source at the central bank told GMA News Online that representatives of Wong handed over P38,280,000 to the AMLC Monday morning.

The money was counted "from 11:00 a.m to 01:00 p.m." said the source, who was privy to the transaction but asked not to be named as he was not authorized by the central bank governor to speak on the matter.

Among those present when the money was turned over were BSP officer-in-charge Vicente S. Aquino, Bangladesh Embassy Manila Deputy Chief of Mission Shahnaz Gazi, Insurance Commissioner Emmanuel Dooc, AMLC Executive Director Julia Bacay-Abad, Wong's legal counsels Atty. Victor Fernandez and Atty. Inocencio Ferrer Jr., and Bangladesh Bank officials.

What's left of P550M

According to a tweet by GMA News' Jam Sisante, the P38 million is part of the money Wong supposedly received from Gao Shuhua and was then played in a casino.

Wong admitted during a senate hearing on March 29 that his company Eastern Hawaii Leisure Co. Ltd received P1 billion from funds stolen from the Bangladesh Bank account with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

"P1 billion nasa Eastern Hawaii – P450 million binayaran sa 'kin na utang, P550 million nilaro [sa casino]," Wong told the Senate blue ribbon committee.

Wong noted around P40 million was left from the P550 million played in the casinos.

He claimed that he accepted the money as debt payment and investment from a couple of big time rollers, not knowing it was part of the Bangladesh funds.
