Duterte to wealthy Pinoys: Pay the right taxes

President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday warned the country's millionaires to pay the right taxes.

Duterte made the warning in a speech before the 8th Infantry Division at Camp Lukban, Catbalogan, Samar on Monday afternoon.

"Kayong mga mayaman, pay your taxes. I will be announcing formally because I would like to have the list completed. Lahat kayong mayayamang milyonaryo dito sa Pilipinas, pay your taxes," Duterte said.

"Or I'll invite you for questioning. Kung hindi kayo madala, padalhan kita ng pulis. Tanungin bakit hindi ka nagbabayad ng... eh ganoon lang gusto ninyo. That's the only way for you to understand it," the President warned.

Duterte again criticized online gambling in his speech.

"How am I suppose to protect the young there? How do I collect the right taxes? You're cheating government. You're destroying the Filipino people," Duterte said.

"It will not happen during my watch for the six years kung maawa ang Diyos sa akin [at] paabutin ako. Huwag n'yo gawin iyan sa akin," he added.

On August 3, Duterte named businessman Roberto Ongpin of PhilWeb Corp. as one of the oligarchs embedded in government.

Ongpin has since resigned as chairman and director from the publicly-listed company and all its subsidiaries a day after.

"It must be the interest first and last —wala na first and second —the first and only interest is government interest. Nothing else matters," Duterte said before ending his speech. —NB, GMA News
