PHL, India eye cooperation in BPO sector

The Philippines and India are looking for ways to complement each other's business process outsourcing (BPO) sector instead of engaging in fierce competition, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said Monday.

"In the area of BPOs, we agreed to work on hopefully improving complementation in serving our respective clients in areas of complementation instead of competing," Trade Secretary Ramon M. Lopez told reporters in Pasay City.

The Philippines and India are two of the top BPO countries, as well as top competitors for clients with outsourcing needs.

"We can probably jointly offer out respective services. Kung san tayo magaling, san sila magaling, 'yun 'yung itutulak natin sa ating mga clients," Lopez said.

The Philippine IT and Business Process Management (IT-BPM) earlier said it seeks to generate as much as $39 billion in revenue over the next six years. — VDS, GMA News
