LTFRB declares 72% of Grab, Uber cars as 'colorum'

Seventy-two percent of the 56,000 Transport Network Vehicle Services (TNVS) will be considered as "colorum" starting next week, according to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), and will no longer be allowed to ply the streets of Metro Manila.

Only 15,440 vehicles of both Transport Network Companies (TNCs) Grab and Uber have the necessary documents to continue operating as TNVS by July 26, 2017, LTFRB Board Member Aileen A. Lizada said in a press conference in Quezon City on Tuesday.

The vehicles that can continue to operate consist of 3,000 with the provisional authority and certificate of public convenience, as well as 10,000 with pending applications and 2,440 with motions for reconsideration, according to the LTFRB.

Citing data provided by Grab and Uber, Lizada said a total of 56,000 units of both Grab and Uber are operating in the Philippines.

This means that only 27.57 percent of the TNVS will be able to continue operating, while 72.47 percent will be declared as "colorum" or operating without the necessary permit, and thus considered illegal. — VDS, GMA News
