No cop will join destab plot vs. Duterte, Albayalde says

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Oscar Albayalde on Tuesday ensured that no policemen will join the alleged destabilization plot against President Rodrigo Duterte.

According to a Balitanghali report by Mariz Umali, Albayalde warned those who would join the "Red October" ouster plot that they will be slapped with administrative or criminal charges.

Police have admitted that there were "persistent reports" about the Red October plot in which the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), led by founder Jose Maria Sison, allegedly aims to remove Duterte from presidency.

Albayalde admitted that the supposed destabilization plot was "cause for concern" but not necessarily a "cause for alarm."

The military, for its part, has vowed to suppress any move of communist groups to oust Duterte from power.

Duterte earlier accused members of the opposition, communist rebels, and the Magdalo group of conspiring to unseat him by September 21, the 46th anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law by the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos.

The Department of National Defense earlier said it is taking seriously the alleged plot, but added it also believes that it will not prosper due to lack of public support. —Anna Felicia Bajo/KBK, GMA News
