Ilokano fotog sets world record for largest photo mosaic

MANILA, Philippines - A Filipino photographer who hails from Ilocos officially set a world record for the world's largest photo mosaic. Photojournalist and mosaic artist Revoli Cortez set the record with a giant 175 by 125-foot (21,875 square-foot) photo mosaic of some 1,000 photos of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in action. [See photo here] "The Largest Photo Mosaic was printed by Golden Touch printers, which also holds the record for the largest printed photo sticker in the world," the World Records Academy said on its website. The World Records Academy is "the leading international organization which certify world records (based on the number of records listed on website, new records listed each year and the worldwide availability of each new world record)," according to its website. It said the photo mosaic printed on tarpaulin is made of more than 1,000 photographs of Mrs. Arroyo that was unveiled during her birthday last April 15. Sponsors of the record included the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor), Office of the Press Secretary (OPS), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Embrace and Luneta Park. Press Secretary Cerge Remonde said the mosaic was a gift for Mrs. Arroyo although she was in her hometown in Lubao, Pampanga to celebrate her 62nd birthday. "I think the President will be pleasantly surprised," Remonde, who was present during the unrolling, said in April.
