Pinoy jailed 4 mos in Singapore for 'upskirt' filming

For taking a picture from under a woman’s skirt, using his mobile phone, a 36-year-old Filipino clerk was sentenced to four weeks in jail in Singapore on Friday. The Singapore Straits times reported that Alex Peralta Cinco pleaded guilty to insulting the modesty of a 26-year-old woman shopper on an escalator at The Heeren, Orchard Road on Aug. 9. The report said the woman was then shopping with a 37-year-old male companion, who saw Cinco placing his cellphone beneath her skirt without her knowledge and clicking its camera function. Cinco surrendered the phone to the couple after the man threatened to report him to the police. In court, Cinco apologized and sought forgiveness. He said he came to Singapore to work and that he hoped to be given a chance to continue working there. The report, quoting police statistics, said “upskirt" filming cases using electronic gadgets like mobile phones have gone up. In 2006, the police recorded 50 cases of such outrage of modesty offenses, which was almost double the 28 cases in 2004. In 2005, there were 39 cases. The police prosecutor in Cinco’s case said there was a danger of the “upskirt" photographs being circulated in the Internet. - GMANews.TV
