Damaged water pipe disrupts traffic, water service in Las Piñas

Residents in some parts of Las Piñas City found their water services disrupted or cut on early Friday the 13th after a water concessionaire's pipe burst along a busy road in the city shortly after midnight Thursday.

Initial information indicated a 400-mm pipe connected to a 1,400-mm line was damaged, said Maynilad Water spokesperson Grace Laxa.

"Ang sumabog, 400-mm pipe na naka-tap sa 1,400-mm pipe. Ang extent ng sira hindi pa natin alam. Tinatanggal pa natin ang tubig, bubungkalin pa ‘yan [para] makita anong parte ang nasira sa tubo," Laxa said in an interview on dzBB radio.

She said the affected area appeared to be the part of the pipe along the Alabang Zapote Road near the corner of Castillo Street.

Areas without water included M. Alvarez, Balarao, Upper Balarao, and Upper Angela.

The areas with low pressure to no water included:
  • BF Resort
  • Admiral
  • CAA Upper
  • Mother Earth
  • Emma Paliko
  • SM Southmall
  • Alabang Zapote from Balarao to SM
A separate report by dzBB's Sam Nielsen said the pipe may have burst at about 1 a.m. Friday, spraying water up to two stories high.

The part of the road where the pipe burst was briefly flooded, forcing traffic in the area to slow down.

Engineers could not immediately give a timetable on when the pipe could be repaired. –KG, GMA News
