QC jail inmates protest transfer of 'leaders,' hold noise barrage

Several inmates of the Quezon City Jail held a noise barrage Thursday morning to protest an alleged move by jail officials to move some of the inmates' leaders to different cells.

This prompted some jail guards to fire warning shots to stop the brewing commotion, according to a report by radio dzBB's Allan Gatus.

Most of the inmates to be moved were reportedly members of the Sigue-Sigue Sputnik Gang, the report said.

Quezon City Jail warden Joseph Bela officials found and confiscated bladed weapons from the cells of the "Sigue-Sigue Sputnik" gang leaders during an inspection.

In turn, the inspection stemmed from last week's riot at the New Bilibid Prison that killed one inmate and injured at least three others.

Bela said the warning shots fired had involved relatively harmless rubber bullets. — RSJ, GMA News
