MMDA adjusts truck ban hours during ADB meet

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority adjusted Thursday the truck ban hours for the rest of the week in consideration of the Asian Development Bank governors' board meeting in Manila.

 

In an advisory posted on its Twitter account, the MMDA said the amendment is due to the "exigencies of the ongoing ADB summit."

 

"This measure is necessitated by the exigencies of the ongoing ADB summit and was communicated to various truckers groups at an emergency meeting today," it said.

 

Earlier Thursday, MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said they may have to make adjustments after some 4,000 trucks allowed to deliver perishable items clogged some major roads Wednesday night.

 

According to the MMDA, the amended truck ban hours for Thursday and Friday will be from 10:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. the next day.

 

On Saturday, the truck ban hours will be from 9 a.m. until 4 a.m. 

 

On Sunday, normal truck ban hours will be reinstated. 

 

Initially, the truck ban hours in Metro Manila for the week of the ADB meeting were from 4 a.m. to 9 p.m.

 

Exempted are trucks that haul perishable goods such as fruits, vegetables, seafood, and ice, "provided they will not pass through the routes to be used by ADB delegates."

 

The regular truck ban hours are from 6 to 9 a.m. and 5 to 9 p.m. except Sundays and holidays. –KG, GMA News
