New Bilibid Prison gang leader shot dead by irate inmate

A gang leader was shot dead inside the New Bilibid Prison after a dispute over a billiards game inside the penitentiary's maximum security area Thursday afternoon. NBP officials are investigating how the suspect managed to get hold of a cal-.22 handgun that was used in Thursday's incident, radio dzBB reported early Friday. The report said Bureau of Corrections Superintendent Richard Schwarzkopf Jr. initially identified the fatality as Dionisio Dennis Jamores, leader of the Sigue Sigue Sputnik Gang. Now being investigated are suspect Jason Villaruel, and several inmates at the area at the time of the shooting. An initial investigation showed Villaruel shot Jamores at about 4:20 p.m. at the billiards hall of the NBP's maximum security compound. At the time, Villaruel allegedly got mad during a billiards game, and used a cal-.22 handgun to shoot Jamores. Jamores was rushed to the NBP medical clinic but was declared dead on arrival. An investigation is now ongoing on how Villaruel got hold of the firearm inside the maximum security area. The investigation is also looking into the possible participation of other inmates in the incident, the dzBB report said. — LBG, GMA News
