(Update 5) LGUs, colleges in NCR order suspension of classes due to heavy rain


(Updated 10:00 a.m.) Classes in several colleges and schools in Metro Manila were suspended Saturday due to a heavy downpour on parts of the metropolis. Local government units in at least three cities in Metro Manila suspended classes up to the college level for Saturday due to the heavy rain that fell on the metropolis Saturday. Pasay, Mandaluyong and Marikina Cities all announced the suspension of classes in public and private schools in their respective turfs, radio dzBB reported. The Polytechnic University of the Philippines said classes in all campuses have been suspended due to the rain. "(A)ll PUP Meto Manila Campuses are now suspended including Graduate School, Law School and Open University," it said on its Twitter account. It said earlier that classes are suspended 9 a.m. onwards in PUP Sta. Mesa including Graduate School and College of Law. Colegio de San Juan de Letran in Intramuros, Manila also suspended classes for the day. "We are suspending classes today due to inclement weather," it said. Also, dzBB reported the National University canceled classes for the day starting 9 a.m., and canceled graduate school classes starting noon. It added the University of Santo Tomas canceled classes at all levels for the day. The Far Eastern University also suspended classes in Manila and Makati City campuses. Also, the University of the Philippines Manila campus canceled classes due to inclement weather. Likewise, classes at the Philippine Women's University and University of the East also announced the suspension of classes for the day. "Classes are suspended today, July 21, 2012 due to heavy rains," the PWU said on its Twitter account. The University of the East also said its president, Ester Garcia, announced the cancellation of classes for Saturday. A GMA News tweet said classes and work at Mapua Makati and Intramuros were also suspended for the day. Another tweet said the Pamantasang ng Lungsod ng Maynila likewise suspended classes. Radio dzBB reported the Philippine Christian University also suspended classes for the day as well. Ateneo de Manila also announced undergraduate and graduate classes were suspended starting 10 a.m. More class suspensions Makati City suspended classes up to college level. Work and classes at Miriam College were to be suspended at HEU starting 11 a.m. and MAE at noon. The Philippine College of Criminology in Manila also suspended classes. Centro Escolar University was to suspend classes in Manila and Makati at noon. It suspended classes in Malolos at 10 a.m. Adamson University also suspended classes. Some schools had suspended classes since Friday but only up to the high school level, due to heavy rain. — LBG, GMA News
