Crews from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority tried to clear the Baywalk area of debris and garbage brought there by the waves Wednesday.

Some of the big waves still reached Baywalk as of early Thursday, bringing garbage and mud with them, radio dzBB's Manny Vargas reported.

The report said some of the water from the waves reached Roxas Boulevard.

A separate report by dzBB's Carlo Mateo said the MMDA expects the cleanup to last as many as four days.

On Wednesday, big waves from a monsoon surge flooded a part of Roxas Boulevard in Manila, and forced authorities to close it to traffic for several hours.

The waves also forced the United States Embassy to suspend operations for the day. The US Embassy said it was to resume operations at 10 a.m. Thursday. –KG, GMA News
