MMDA lifts number coding, including in Marikina and Makati

(Updated 10:01am) Amid the heavy rain that flooded several parts of Metro Manila, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority lifted Tuesday the number coding scheme in most of the metropolis, with a later announcement confirming that the scheme had been lifted everywhere in Metro Manila. Earlier Tuesday, the MMDA had said it was not lifting the number coding for the day. Under the number coding scheme, vehicles with plate numbers ending in 3 and 4 are barred from Metro Manila's major thoroughfares from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Earlier, Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. issued Memorandum Circular No. 33 suspending work in government offices and classes in college level in Metro Manila and Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Bulacan, Laguna, Cavite, and Rizal. "However, those agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness/response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital public services shall continue with their operations and render the necessary services," Ochoa said. — CGL/AMD/KG, GMA News
