One of two QC cops in extort try on NCRPO chief's son 'absolved' in probe

One of two Quezon City policemen dragged into a mess involving an alleged extortion try on the son of new Metro Manila police head Chief Superintendent Leonardo Espina has been cleared of the allegations against him.

PO2 Resty del Rosario may formally get back his badge and service firearm after being cleared by the Quezon City Police District, radio dzBB's Allan Gatus reported Wednesday.

But the report said del Rosario still faces an investigation by the National Capital Region Police Office.

The report also quoted QCPD head Chief Superintendent Mario dela Vega as saying that they are now looking for a suitable unit where Del Rosario could be reassigned.

Del Rosario had spent some time in the "freezer" - the QCPD's administrative holding unit - while the QCPD conducted its investigation into the matter.

Earlier, the other policeman linked to the extortion mess - SPO4 Jose dela Peña - was sacked after an investigation linked him to past extortion cases.

Last week, the QCPD temporarily allowed Del Rosario to return to duty as there was no formal complaint filed against him at the time.
