MMDA exec: Motorist tries to intimidate traffic constable with handgun

A motorist now faces an investigation for allegedly trying to intimidate a Metropolitan Manila Development Authority traffic constable with a handgun after being apprehended for a traffic violation in Mandaluyong City Friday.

 

MMDA traffic discipline office head Yves Gonzalez tweeted a report from the MMDA Metrobase indicating the incident occurred at the EDSA-Ortigas area.

 

The screenshot of the report that Gonzalez posted on his Twitter account identified the constable concerned only by his last name, Dagunot.

 

"Wang-wang mentality at its worst," Gonzalez said on his Twitter account, referring to the sense of entitlement that President Benigno Aquino III had rejected on his inauguration on June 30, 2010.

 

An initial investigation showed Dagunot apprehended the driver of a BMW sedan for the "illegal display of (a) commemorative plate."

 

"Instead of cooperating, the driver started to get mad and (hysterical), then he showed his handgun," the report texted to Gonzalez said.

 

The report said Dagunot was surprised but got the attention of police at the EDSA Ortigas ground level.

The incident came a month after an MMDA constable, Saturnino Fabros, flagged down motorist Robert Blair Carabuena, for a traffic violation in Quezon City.

 

Carabuena assaulted Fabros, who stood his ground. Unknown to Carabuena, however, his actions were caught on video, and he received much flak.

 

While Carabuena eventually apologized to Fabros and the public for his actions, the MMDA and Fabros are pushing through with the direct assault complaint they lodged against him. — RSJ, GMA News
