NCRPO orders 8-hour shifts observed to protect cops' health

To prevent possible overwork and burnout, the Metro Manila police has ordered the strict observance of eight-hour shifts for its personnel. Metro Manila police head Chief Superintendent Leonardo Espina said this will also discourage police personnel in other shifts from slacking off, radio dzBB's Glen Juego reported. Espina was quoted in the report as saying he does not want Metro Manila police to work beyond eight hours a day as it may threaten their health. He added this may be tantamount to abusing their bodies. But he said extended duty hours or overtime work would be allowed if there is a major activity or event in their area of responsibility. Police are expected to work doubly hard at their shifts in the coming months due to the Christmas shopping season. — LBG, GMA News
