Task Force Commonwealth chief shot dead in QC ambush

The head of a multi-sectoral task force maintaining peace and order along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City was gunned down in an ambush Tuesday afternoon. Police managed to shoot dead one of at least four suspects in the killing of Task Force Commonwealth chief Manuel Buncio, radio dzBB's Roland Bola reported. Buncio was declared dead on arrival at the Fairview General Hospital, the report said.   A separate report on GMA News’ “24 Oras” Tuesday night said Buncio sustained gunshot wounds in the face and chest. The dzBB report said police are verifying information that the killing may be related to Buncio's work as head of Task Force Commonwealth, which had dismantled illegal stalls used by vendors along the road. An initial investigation showed Buncio was shot as he was about to board his vehicle along Commonwealth Avenue, across Commonwealth Elementary School, at 4 p.m. Police near the area chanced on the suspects, who engaged them in a brief shootout. One of the suspects was shot while the three others escaped aboard two motorcycles. — KBK, GMA News
