MMDA reminds motorists: Number coding resumes Wednesday

After enjoying a two-day reprieve, Metro Manila's motorists must go back to observing the number coding scheme for the rest of this week. The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority reminded motorists Tuesday night the number coding will resume on Wednesday. "Number Coding enforcement resumes tomorrow, Wednesday, Dec. 26. It is lifted metrowide again on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1," the MMDA said in an advisory on its Twitter account. Earlier, the MMDA had said the number coding scheme is automatically lifted on holidays. The number coding scheme bars certain vehicles from major thoroughfares on weekdays, depending on the last digit of the vehicles' plate numbers. Vehicles with plate numbers ending in 1 and 2 are barred on Mondays; 3 and 4 on Tuesdays; 5 and 6 on Wednesdays; 7 and 8 on Thursdays; and 9 and 0 on Fridays. Under Proclamation No. 295 that President Benigno Aquino III signed on Nov. 24, 2011, December 31 (Monday), the last day of the year, is a special non-working day. Proclamation No. 459 decreed that New Year’s Day on January 1, 2013 (Tuesday) is also a regular holiday nationwide. — BM, GMA News
