Fr. James Reuter's remains leave St. Paul University Manila for Ateneo

The remains of the late Jesuit missionary Fr. James Reuter left the St. Paul University campus in Manila early Thursday en route to Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City. A Mass was held for Reuter early Thursday before the coffin with Reuter's remains were placed in a vehicle in a short convoy, radio dzBB's Carlo Mateo reported. The convoy bearing Reuter's remains left St. Paul University shortly after 7 a.m. and passed through United Nations Avenue in Manila en route to Ateneo. Areas the convoy was to pass included Nagtahan, Aurora Boulevard and Santolan, then Katipunan Avenue, the report said. Reuter's remains arrived at the St. Paul University in Manila Tuesday, a day after he died at age 96. Reuter had served as chaplain of St. Paul University. The priest is to be buried at the Sacred Heart Novitiate in Novaliches, Quezon City on Saturday, Jan. 5. Reuter, known for his exemplary work on radio, TV and stage, died at Our Lady of Peace Hospital, a hospital he built to serve the poor in the area, in Parañaque City. He had served as executive secretary of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines Episcopal Commission on Social Communications and Mass Media (ECSCMM). He also chaired the National Office of Mass Media for decades. The CBCP quoted his close associate Cherry Aquino as saying Reuter had a stroke last December 27. — LBG, GMA News
