Power glitch disrupts LRT-2 operations for hours

An electrical overload at the depot of the Light Rail Transit Line 2 delayed by several hours the system's operations Saturday morning. LRT Authority spokesman Hernando Cabrera said the problem was fixed at 7 a.m., but it was not until past 8 a.m. when the trains started accommodating passengers. "Nagkaroon ng problema sa depot, sa paradahan. Nagkaroon ng overloading sa power supply... ang generator doon [sa depot]," he said in an interview on dzBB radio. In a post on his Twitter account, he said the problem was traced to the overloading of a power rectifier at the Santolan depot. He added the Code Red was lifted and commercial operations started at 8:37 a.m. A separate report by dzBB's Sam Nielsen said the problem irked many passengers who took other forms of public transport such as UV Express AUVs, jeeps and taxis. Power outage In the dzBB interview, Cabrera said the problem started at 1 a.m., and that the outage prevented the trains in the depot from getting on the LRT-2 line to ply their route. The LRT-2 line links C.M. Recto in Manila to the Santolan area. "Hindi makaakyat ang tren, dapat nakaakyat ang tren 3 a.m. para maka-operate ng 5 a.m. (Until the outage was fixed, the trains that were supposed to get on the tracks as early as 3 a.m. could not do so)," Cabrera said. — LBG, GMA News
