Man hit, fatally run over by PNR train in Manila
(Updated 11:28 a.m.) A man from Tarlac was killed after being hit by a Philippine National Railways train in Manila's Pandacan district early Monday.
The incident occurred near the PNR's Beata (Pandacan) station, according to a report by radio dzBB's Carlo Mateo.
Barangay 865 Councilor Eugenio de Asis cited initial information showing the fatality, surnamed Peralta, was from Tarlac province.
However, he said they are still investigating what prompted the man to get near the tracks and get hit.
Initial investigation showed Peralta was hit while he was along the southbound tracks shortly after 6 a.m.
Police are also verifying claims by local residents that Peralta may have been trying to commit suicide.
“Bigla siyang lumundag sa harap mismo ng train which means medyo possible ano nga siya, suicide,” said De Quiros, citing an account from the station's head of security as well as statements from other witnesses.
According to an ID found on Peralta, his name was Confucius Ephraim Peralta, and was from Sta. Ignacia, Tarlac. De Quiros said his relatives may call PNR at (02) 3190041 and (02) 3190044.
Asked if the PNR plans to increase its safety measures, De Quiros said even railings will not deter people from jumping on the tracks. “Kapag may intention talagang ganoon, you won't know,” he said.
According to PNR spokesperson Paul de Quiros, Peralta was behind the yellow line on the platform, but jumped on the tracks right as the train was approaching.

De Quiros said that when Peralta jumped, it was too late for the train's driver to stop. "Ang braking ng train hindi siya parang kotse, it will take a few meters. Talagang puwede siya mamatay doon eh," he told GMA News' Kara David on GMA News TV's News to Go.

Last July 17, a drunk man was run over and killed by a PNR train in Makati City. The victim, identified as Rolando Diaz, was lying on the railroad tracks at Pasay Road when he was hit.
Police said their initial investigation showed Diaz had a drinking spree with some friends Monday night, and quoted witnesses who said he lay on the tracks when he felt tired.
