Jeepney driver attacked by congressman's son to file charges

The 66-year-old jeepney driver attacked by the son of Batangas Third District Rep. Sonny Collantes in a traffic altercation on Tuesday expressed shock that the congressman’s son has pressed charges against him, and said he will press charges against the younger Collantes in turn.

Lawyer King George Leandro Antonio Collantes filled charges of grave threat and damage to property against jeeney driver Orlando Garcia, after the two met in the middle of San Rafael St., Brgy. Kapitolyo in Pasig City coming from opposite directions.

Collantes accused Garcia of taking up some of the space in his lane. A video taken by a concerned citizen showed Collantes exiting his vehicle and reaching into Garcia’s jeep to punch him.

In an interview aired over GMA News TV’s Balitanghali, Garcia called Collantes a liar, saying the lawyer fabricated his entire story.

"Lahat ng sinabi mo, kahit sa blotter, puro kasinungalingan," Garcia said.

"Sabi mo natapik mo lang ako, at pinitik lang, pero pumutuk yung [talukap ng mata ko] dugo ng dugo, pati yung pustiso ko tumilapon sa suntok mo," Garcia added, noting that he will be filing charges of his own.

Garcia said he will file charges of grave threat and physical injuries against Collantes. Garcia will also file a child abuse case versus the congressman's son, saying that his nine-year old grandson, who witnessed the entire event has been traumatized.

Collantes did not comment on the possible charges against him.

“Let's just wait for what will happen in the next coming days,” he said. — Patricia Denise Chiu/BM, GMA News
