4 killed, 14 hurt in Marikina 3-vehicle road accident

(Updated 3:45 p.m.) Four people were killed while 14 others were injured in a three-vehicle road accident in Marikina City early Wednesday morning.

Traffic was snarled at the JP Rizal area across Fairlane due to the accident, the city government said in a post on its Twitter account.
A earlier report by radio dzBB's Glen Juego said two of the fatalities were from the passenger jeep and one was the driver of the motorcycle.

A report on GMA News TV's “Balitanghali” by Emil Sumangil said the number of fatalities rose to four. It said most of the victims were on their way to work.

Citing initial claims by witnesses, the dzBB report said the accident occurred when a 10-wheeler truck hit the passenger jeep, and the motorcycle was caught in the smashup.

The television report quoting the initial investigation by Marikina police said the incident happened around 6 a.m. when the truck driven by Bong Dumalagan tried to overtake a van.

The truck failed to return to its lane, causing it to hit the jeepney which was on its way to Marikina City, before slamming into an electric post and then the motorcycle.
