Technical problems prompt UP Manila to extend registration period

Citing technical problems, the University of the Philippines Manila has moved its registration and tuition payment deadlines.

Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Marie Josephine de Luna said the last day for registration is now Aug. 8, and the deadline for tuition payment will be on Aug. 15.

The eUP SAIS is a Student Academic Information System that manages student-relevant and related data. It includes student, faculty and alumni information.

De Luna said classes for freshmen, students belonging to higher years of all colleges except College of Arts and Sciences, and graduate students will proceed as scheduled.

Classes for CAS students belonging to higher years and CAS classes for other colleges except freshmen classes will start Aug. 9, Saturday.

Meanwhile, de Luna instructed university officials to monitor students who may have financial difficulties, and advise them to avail of student loans from the Office of Student Affairs by Aug. 15.

"Student loans are interest-free if settled within four months and 100 percent of tuition may be loaned subject to approval of the Chancellor," she said.

Students with pending STS appeals will be given consideration on payment of tuition. Once appeals are resolved, they may avail of student loans if necessary. — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
