Mounds of trash left in Manila after grandstand mass

Now comes the messy side of Pope Francis' five-day visit: the trash left behind after the Pope's closing Mass and lined the route between Luneta and Apostolic Nunciature.

Several Filipinos had gathered in the area since Saturday for a chance to see the Pope.

For its part, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority deployed crews to clean up the mess, but could not immediately get to work.

A report by dzBB's Luisito Santos said the MMDA could not immediately clean up at Quirino corner Taft Avenues because of the number of people still there as of 6:10 p.m.
