Kin of Quiapo road rage victim appeal to Duterte for justice

The family of slain road rage victim Mark Vincent Garalde cried for justice and appealed to President Rodrigo Duterte for help in the immediate arrest of the suspect, a report on Unang Balita on Thursday said.

Garalde's family members could not accept what happened to him, GMA News' Susan Enriquez reported.

Kristine Eleazar, sister-in-law of Garalde, said she last saw the victim on Monday night about to ride his bicycle to go to work.

Risen Eleazar, another in-law relative of Garalde, said she watched the CCTV video of the road rage incident in Quiapo, Manila many times and still could not believe the gruesome killing.

"Ang ginawa sa kanya, hindi katanggap-tanggap," she said.

On Monday night, Garalde's bike was hit by a car along P. Casal Street.

CCTV footage showed the driver arguing with the victim, then he went down and boxed Garalde.

He then shot at the cyclist.

Authorities have already identified the suspect to be Army reservist Vhon Tanto.

Considered "armed and dangerous," Tanto is now the subject of a manhunt of the Manila Police District.

On Thursday morning, the vehicle used by the suspect in the killing, a Hyundai EON, was found in Aritao, Nueva Vizcaya.

Appeal for justice

Both Kristine and Risen made an appeal to Duterte for justice for the victim.

"Dito na 'yung lalabas na human rights. Wala siyang kaawa-awang pinatay kaya dapat ma-solve agad ang kaso," Risen said.

However, in spite of their anger, the Eleazars would rather have the killer be penalized with life imprisonment than death.

"Kahit sino sa atin, walang karapatan na kumuha ng buhay ng tao. Para sa akin, makulong na lang siya ng habangbuhay," Risen said.

Garalde is survived by his two children aged 13 and two. —KG, GMA News
