MOTHER SAYS SORRY

Abandoned Baby Jade passes away

Baby Jade, the infant recently found in a trash bin at the Jade Garden Town Homes compound in Valenzuela City, has passed away.

A report by JP Soriano in 24 Oras on Saturday said that Jade had died of brain damage due to oxygen deprivation. She also suffered from sepsis and acute kidney injury.

The newly-born infant was discovered wrapped in a plastic bag inside a trash can by a couple on August 27.

She had fallen into a coma due to oxygen deprivation and was confined at the Philippine Children's Medical Center in Quezon City.

"It's very hard for us to have a baby so yung napulot ni misis ko yung baby medyo may attachment na rin. Lalo na naktia namin yung suffering ni baby. She's gone but I think it's better na rin. May purpose naman si God para dun," Bryan Lim, one of the first to help Baby Jade, said.

Sorry

The mother who had abandoned Jade was a 23-year-old helper at the compound. She had been hiding her pregnancy from her family.

Dorothy Go Evangelista, head social welfare officer in Valenzuela City, said the mother visited the baby after she passed.

"She was also asking and telling na sorry sa baby for what she did," Evangelista said.

The mother will be subjected to psychiatric counseling once she recovers from giving birth. —Jessica Bartolome/ALG, GMA News
