Two gun-for-hire suspects killed in Malabon during police raid

Two men suspected to be members of a gun-for-hire group died on Wednesday night during a police raid in Malabon City, a report on Unang Balita on Thursday said.

Killed were Jay Matias and a still unidentified male, GMA News' Victoria Tulad reported.

Based on a tip they received, police conducted a raid on a house in Sitio Balot, Brgy. Tonsuya past 11 p.m. Wednesday.

According to the information the police received, the five men inside the house were armed.

As policemen approached the house, they reportedly saw two men at the door holding guns.

"Hindi pa nagpapaputok ang suspek pero nakabunot po sila kaya nag-engage na agad ang pulis natin," Police Chief Insp. Lucio Simangan, deputy chief for police operations in Malabon, said.

Matias and his companion died while three other suspects escaped.

Recovered from the victims were two 9-mm and one .45-caliber firearms.

An aunt of Matias, however, insisted that the victims had no firearms on them.

However, she admitted that Matias used to take shabu but stopped taking drugs a long time ago. She added that Matias was not a drug pusher.

Matias was a tricycle driver, she said. —KG, GMA News
