PNP chief poses with Bato statue at children's safety park in Crame

Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa and his wife Nancy on Monday led the opening of a park inside Camp Crame that will promote road safety among primary school children.

They will enjoy this park and, at the same time, they will learn dahil ‘yun nga educational ito. Matututo sila about traffic signs, laws,” Dela Rosa said in an interview after the inauguration.

The park features a statue of Dela Rosa sitting on a bench. Dela Rosa joked that he and his wife could have their date at the park.

Dela Rosa also imprinted his hands at one part of the park, where it was framed with a title "Kamay ni Bato."

The park features a gasoline station, pedestrian lane, lagoon, and bigger-than-life sculptures of Iron Man, Superman, Hulk, Captain America, Spiderman, Minions, Wonder Woman, among others.

It also has an open space featuring a driving lane that winds across multiple traffic markers and instructional signage.

Dela Rosa believes children will enjoy the park.

“Matanda na nga ako naappreciate ko how much more ‘yung mga bata. Mag enjoy ang mga bata dito,” he said.

He joked that he thinks he needs to have a grandchild now.

“Mag-produce muna ako ng apo. Hahanap muna ako ng bata para meron akong aalalayan,” he said.

Chief Supt Gilbert Cruz, head of Police Community Relations Group, said children will have hands-on experiences on road safety and road courtesy in the park.

He noted that it's better to teach children about road safety as early as possible.

Nai-instill at madali silang nakaka-absorb kasi especially yung pagpasok ng 7 years old pataas, naabsorb na nila kung ano yung itinuturo,” he said.

The park is open to the public for free from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Wala ring bayad. Punta lang sila dito, coordinate lang sila sa PCRG just for us to know ‘yung mga names nila and then they can use the park, libre po ito,” he said

“Pwede namin silang sabay sabay na turuan, may pumupuntang school talaga dito. Sabay sabay naming tinuturuan. We have eight kinds of motor vehicle na pwede nilang gamitin,” he said.

The park was constructed in cooperation with Petron Corporation. —JST, GMA News
