Kidnapping raps filed vs. 4 Makati cops

Philippine National Police's Counter-Intelligence Task Force (PNP-CITF) on Wednesday filed kidnapping complaints against four Makati policemen arrested for kidnapping and extorting money from a family in Pasay City.

The CITF said Police Officers 2 Harley Garcera and Clarence Maynes and Police Officer 1 Tim Santos and Jeffrey Caniete were charged with kidnapping before the Pasay City Prosecutor's Office at 11:27 a.m.

Administrative charges are also being prepared against the four policemen.

The four policemen were nabbed on Tuesday night for extorting money from and threatening to kill a businessman and his family.

CITF director Senior Superintendent Jose Chiquito Malayo said the businessman was released by the four policemen after paying P100,000.

Malayo said the four policemen threatened to kill the businessman and all members of his family if he would fail to pay P300,000.

The four policemen were arrested during the payment of the remaining amount in Pasay City.

The CITF commander said the four policemen were all members of the Makati City police's intelligence unit.

The CITF was formed by PNP chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa to go after erring policemen.

Malayo said follow-up operations are ongoing for the arrest of four more members of the group, including an active policeman, a retired policeman and two civilians.

"Walo yung grupo, apat lang nahuli, may hinahabol pa tayong apat na kasamahan nila. Yung victim, mag-boyfriend po ito, kinuha sila ng walong tao noong May 8. Noong gabing iyon, inikot-ikot sila, dinala sa isang depot at hiningan ng pera, threatened na papatayin ang pamilya nila," he said.

He said they have information that the group was also involved in other robbery and extortion cases in Cavite.

He urged the victims of the group to come out and file complaints. —Joseph Tristan Roxas/ALG, GMA News
