DOJ orders NBI to probe killing of Caloocan prosecutor

Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II on Monday directed the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to probe the killing of a prosecutor outside his home in Caloocan City.

Aguirre ordered the NBI to send a team of agents to the residence of Prosecutor Diosdado Azarcon and check whether the motive behind the killing was personal or related to his work.

The prosecutor was walking to his car, which was just a few steps away from his home on 9th Avenue in Barangay 63, when he was shot thrice in the head by the assailants on Monday morning.

Azarcon is the third prosecutor killed in the last seven months.

On January 11, Quezon City prosecutor Johanne Noel Mingoa was killed in front of a restaurant in Barangay Old Balara, Quezon City.

Mingoa used to work for Aguirre when the Cabinet official was still in private practice.

Mati City Prosecutor Rolando Acido, on the other hand, was shot dead by two unidentified men on board a motorcycle while on his way to Mati Hall of Justice last October 26.  — Virgil Lopez/RSJ, GMA News
