PNP-Crime Lab confirms burnt body on Maxims Hotel's 5th floor belongs to Jessie Carlos

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday positively identified that the burnt body found on the fifth floor of Maxims Hotel belonged Resorts World Manila attacker Jessie Carlos.

The PNP-Crime Laboratory director Chief Superintendent Aurelio Trampe said Carlos was positively identified through a DNA test, based on samples taken from his remains.

Trampe said the DNA samples from Carlos matched the samples taken from his parents.

"Oo. Positive na si Jessie Carlos. Sample from both parents," Trampe said in a phone interview with GMA News Online.

With this development, Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II said he will ask the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for guidance regarding his order to conduct a separate DNA testing on Carlos' remains.

"We will see what is the protocol on this. I will contact the NBI," Aguirre said in a text message.

Carlos, a former Finance department employee, was the lone gunman who attacked Resorts World Manila's casino early Friday. He set ablaze gaming tables and slot machines and engaged the in-house security in a firefight.

After the attack, he holed himself up in one of the rooms on the fifth floor of Maxims hotel, where he torched and shot himself.

Thirty-seven other people, including guests and employees, died due to suffocation.

Carlos' family admitted that he was a casino gambling addict.

The attacker was an employee of the Department of Finance who was dismissed from the service due to questionable statement of assets, liabilities and net worth. —ALG, GMA News
