CAUGHT ON CAM

Motorist challenges traffic aide to fight over parking violation

A motorist on Tuesday got into a shouting match with a traffic enforcer who apprehended him for illegally parking in San Lorenzo, Makati City.

A report by Vonne Aquino in 24 Oras said that the driver Jayson Tamares lost his temper and challenged the traffic enforcer Donald Catamora to a fight.

Cellphone footage showed Catamora standing in front of Tamares' car after flagging him down. However, this did not stop Tamares from advancing.

Catamora followed Tamares' car, prompting the motorist into getting out and start shouting.

"Gusto mo suntukan tayo?" Tamares was heard yelling.

Catamora replied, "Eh binangga mo ako, andar ka nang andar eh. Hindi mo 'ko binangga?"

"Nakaharang ka diyan. G—o ka pala eh," Tamares said.

After Tamares went back to his car, he started driving again despite Catamora standing in front of his car.

Catamora was hit hard enough that the car's side mirror broke.

"Yung last na kaladkad niya sa 'kin, alam ko pong bibilis na sasakyan niya, medyo tumagilid na po ako, kaya tumama kamay ko sa side mirror, saka nabasag," Catamora said.

Other traffic enforcers assisted in apprehending Tamares and the driver was brought to the Makati Police Station.

Upon arriving at the police station, Tamares displayed remorse and asked for forgiveness.

"Humihingi na po ako ng tawad, lumuluhod na po ako sa kanya, ayoko pong magkaroon ng record," he said.

He added that he didn't notice the sign saying that it was a no park zone.

"Hindi ko po napansin eh. Kaya yung pagkatok niya sa 'kin, umalis na po ako. Akala ko po OK na. Nabastos ko pala siya," he said.

However, the traffic enforcer is determined to file a complaint.

"Wala po talagang balak magpaareglo. Kasi po para maturuan ng leksyon. At saka para makita rin po ng ibang tao na hindi lahat ng enforcer nakukuha sa sorry sorry lang," he said. —Jessica Bartolome/JST, GMA News
