Suspected liquid cocaine seized at the airport, female passenger nabbed

A female passenger, who hails from Bolivia, was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 for alleged possession of illegal drugs on Monday evening, according to a report on "Saksi."

The woman was found to have suspected liquid cocaine in her possession that was hidden in four jackets.

According to a report on Unang Balita by Jay Sabale on Tuesday, Maria Hinojosa Bazan was arrested before 7 p.m.

Bazan's jackets seemed to have been custom-made so these could hide the contraband.

Jojo Bautista, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency deputy task commander, said they received information from Interpol that the illegal drugs will be brought to Manila.

Bazan left Sao Paolo, Brazil then proceeded to Bangkok before boarding a connecting flight to Manila.

At the NAIA, PDEA personnel conducted two field tests and both results confirmed that the drugs were cocaine.

Bazan said she was just asked by the boyfriend of her friend to deliver the drugs to the Philippines in exchange for the free surgery of one of her relatives.

The suspect is currently detained at NAIA Terminal 3.

The cocaine will be sent to the laboratory of PDEA for further testing, while officials are preparing appropriate charges that would be filed against the suspect. — BAP/KG, GMA News
