Caloocan police chief sacked pending probe on Kian's killing

National Capital Region Police Office chief Director Oscar Albayalde on Saturday said the Caloocan City police chief has been sacked over the killing of 17-year-old Kian Loyd delos Santos.

Albayalde told radio dzBB that Senior Superintendent Chito Bersaluna was "administratively relieved" from his post pending investigations into Delos Santos' killing on Wednesday night.

Three policemen, along with the Caloocan City Police Community Precinct (PCP) 7's commander, have been relieved from their posts.

"'Yan ay isang administrative relief para po magbigay-daan sa isang patas na imbestigasyon doon sa nangyari sa Caloocan," Albayalde said.

He clarified that Bersaluna's relief does not mean that he was directly involved in the operation.

Albayalde said they would help Kian's family if they are planning to file criminal cases against the police officers involved in the teenager's killing.

"'Yung magulang ng namatay na bata ay magpasya na magdemanda then kung talagang sila po ay maghahabla, tutulungan po natin sila. Makikipag-ugnayan po kami sa kanila itong darating na Lunes," he said.

Policemen claimed that Delos Santos shot them as he was trying to escape during an anti-drugs operation in Barangay 160.

Witnesses, however, claimed that Delos Santos was summarily executed by the policemen.

The family of the teenager has also released a CCTV camera footage that shows policemen escorting a suspect. One of the policemen was seen with his arms around the suspect's neck.
