QC police record nearly 100% rise in murder cases


The number of murder incidents in Quezon City rose by almost 100 percent over the past year, police data revealed.

Data from the Quezon City Police District showed that from July 2016 to June 2017, a total of 404 murder incidents were recorded in the city, an increase of 91.4 percent from 211 incidents recorded from July 2015 to June 2016.

Meanwhile, the number of incidents for the rest of the eight focused crimes dropped over the past year, with carnapping having the biggest decrease of 75.31 percent.

A comparative summary of the other focused crime incidents are as follows:

  • Homicide: from 47 to 23 (51.06 percent decrease)
  • Robbery: from 1,905 to 1,85 (43.05 percent decrease)
  • Theft: from 3,940 to 2,432 (38.27 percent decrease)
  • Carnapping: from 239 to 59 (75.31 percent decrease)
  • Motorcycle theft: from 600 to 287 (52.17 percent decrease)
  • Physical injuries: from 1,817 to 1,229 (32.36 percent decrease)
  • Rape: from 261 to 139 (46.74 percent decrease)

Overall, the total number of crime incidents in the city from July 2016 to June 2017 is 5,658, a drop of 37.27 percent from the previous year's 9,020. —Erwin Colcol/ALG, GMA News
