On arrest over illegal drugs, Cogie Domingo says he was set up

Actor and model Cogie Domingo on Friday denied any involvement in the illegal drug trade, saying he was set up by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

“I believe na set up lang ako.  Wala akong alam tungkol dun sa drugs. I’m not on drugs,” Domingo said during a press conference at the PDEA Calabarzon headquarters.

Domingo was accompanied by his father, lawyer Rod Domingo, during the press conference.

"Sumusuporta ako sa aking anak. Alam ko na hindi nagdo-droga, hindi nagbebenta. He's not in any way related to drugs," said the elder Domingo.

The younger Domingo said they were just eating dinner when the operation happened.

“Kumakain lang kami ng dinner tapos nagkaroon ng mga pulis at hulihan. Nagulat lang kami sa nangyari. Kumakain lang kami, hindi ko alam yung evidence laban sa akin,” he said.

Two other suspects

PDEA spokesperson Derrick Carreon said that aside from Domingo, Almira Bautista and another person were arrested in a buy-bust operation at President’s Avenue, BF Homes, Parañaque.

Domingo was allegedly buying shabu from Bautista.

“We acted on reports reaching us pertaining to personalities involved. ‘Yung source is Ms. Almira Bautista. Nagkasa ng buy-bust operations resulting in the arrest of the suspects,” Carreon said.

He said drug paraphernalia were found inside the car of Domingo and the K9 dogs detected the presence of drug residue.

He said they conducted the operation after a three-week surveillance.

“‘Yung surveillance ay two to three weeks but ‘yung information (about the suspects) have been on and off,” he said.

“Yung pusher-buyer natin, nasaksihan ang actual transaction," Carreon said in a separate interview on GMA News TV's Quick Response Team.

“Apparently he was witnessed by our pusher-buyer, kasabay sila nakikipagtransaksyon dun sa nagbebenta. Naunang nabentahan si Mr. Domingo. Then nabentahan yung ating pusher-buyer. After that, na-consumate ang deal, hinuli silang lahat,” he added.

But Domingo denied knowing Bautista and owning the paraphernalia.

“Never ko siyang (Bautista) nakita. Hindi po sa akin (ang paraphernalia),” he said.

He admitted trying illegal drugs in the past but said he is no longer into it.

Bautista likewise denied the allegation, saying she was just visiting a friend and fetching a WIFI device for her son.

“It is not true, wala akong droga. Nothing. I’m just a normal citizen. Naka-park lang kami, pocket WIFI lang ang kukunin ko for my son,” she said.

She said that she is not using illegal drugs and has no transaction with Domingo. — Amita Legaspi and Jessica Bartolome/RSJ/KBK, GMA News
