Drugs from near Malacañang sent to women’s prison in packs of rice, soap

From her condominium unit near Malacañang, convicted drug dealer Yu Yuk Lai's daughter used packs of rice and sachets of powdered soap to transport illegal drugs to her mother's supposed detention at the Correctional Institute for Women.

The alleged mother-and-daughter operation was stopped after agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency swooped down on the Yu's cell at the Mandaluyong prison and, in a follow-up operation, at Diane Uy's residence on Monday.

According to John  Consulta's report on "24 Oras", the agents seized P10 million worth of shabu from the residential condominium just several meters away from the Solano gate of Malacañang compound.

During the operation, a cop identified as Police Officer 3 Walter Vidad was nabbed by authorities.

The report said Vidad has been the police bodyguard of Uy for four years.

"Sinesecure niyo ang isang drug lord," said PDEA director general Aaron Aquino.

Aside from Uy and Vidad, two other employees were arrested by PDEA agents.

Meanwhile, Uy denied allegations against her and insisted that the shabu recovered from her place were planted.

"Di ko talaga alam san galing 'yan eh," Uy said.

Aquino, for his part, maintained that their operation was legitimate. He also revealed that Uy tried to bribe PDEA agents with P5 million.

"Bakit siya magaaregalo sa amin kung planted 'yan?" Aquino said. —Anna Felicia Bajo/NB, GMA News
