MRT-3 unloads riders yet again

A southbound train of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 unloaded passengers at the Cubao Station on Wednesday morning due to a technical problem.

The management of the MRT3 apologized to the public for the incident, which happened at 7:32 a.m., according to the MRT3’s service status notice.

The incident was a Category 3, meaning the affected train was removed without replacement, or cancellation of loops and insertion was done.

This glitch marks the 10th day in a row that MRT-3 recorded instances of rider offloading due to unspecified technical problems, but it was markedly less grim than the accident that happened at the train line’s Ayala Avenue Station on Tuesday afternoon.

Angeline Fernando, 24, lost her right arm after it got caught in the train coupler linking the first and second cars of the train—she had felt dizzy, causing her to fall off the passenger platform onto the tracks.

Transportation Undersecretary for Rails Cesar Chavez told reporters Wednesday that surgeons were able to reattach Fernando’s arm, and said he will personally supervise the extension of government financial assistance to the victim.

There were 10 running MRT3 trains as of 8 a.m., according to the MRT3’s official Twitter account.

This is five trains less than the number of deployed units in the morning nearly a week ago when Chavez claimed the train line’s performance was improving. —Nicole-Anne C. Lagrimas/KG, GMA News
