PDEA awards P4.8 million to 4 informants

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Wednesday awarded four civilians with over P4 million in cash reward as part of its campaign to encourage citizens to report any suspected illegal drug activities.

PDEA Director General Aaron Aquino handed the cash reward worth P4,834,433.12 to the informants who wore masks to conceal their identity at the PDEA National Headquarters in Quezon City.

The claimants — alias Basti, Cold Ice, James, and Toffee — who wore masks to “protect their anonymity” were introduced only through their codenames.

Aquino said that the agency continues to give civilians monetary reward quarterly to encourage them to participate in the administration’s campaign against illegal drugs.

For providing information that led to the dismantling of a clandestine shabu laboratory and seizure of 248,413.11 liters of liquid shabu, 21 liters of hydrochloric acid and 3.79 liters of acetone, “Toffee” received P1,806,846.60 cash reward which was the biggest among the four rewards.

The operation was conducted at Villa Dolores Subdivision, Barangay Sto. Domingo, Angeles City, Pampanga on May 31, 2016 by the combined elements of the PDEA Regional Office III and the Philippine National Police Anti-Illegal Drugs Group Special Operations Unit Team 2 (PNO AIDG-SOU2).

“James” was awarded a P1,516,672.96 cash reward as the information he had shared led to the confiscation of 20,596 grams of shabu and the arrest of two drug suspects in a buy-bust operation on November 14, 2016 along Tambacan Street in Sta. Cruz, Manila.

Another informant named as “Cold Ice” had also received cash reward amounting to P1,019,758.40 since the information he reported to PDEA resulted to the seizure of 19,673.81 grams of shabu.

Two suspected drug personalities were also arrested during the entrapment operation on March 21, 2016 along Green Meadows Avenue, Barangay Ugong Norte, in Quezon City.

Meanwhile, “Basti” was the last informant to receive cash reward amounting to P491,155.16 as 5,232.10 grams of shabu were confiscated for his shared information.

A drug personality was also arrested in a buy-bust operation on November 14, 2016 along Aurora Boulevard corner Romulo Avenue in Quezon City. — MDM, GMA News
